The Open Media Foundation (OMF), a Denver nonprofit working to ensure community engagement in media, is pleased to announce a partnership with the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS). Through the AmeriCorps VISTA program offered by CNCS, OMF will be able to expand its reach to help those in the Denver community access the media tools they need to better share their voices on the issues that affect them.
The AmeriCorps VISTA program places individuals for one year of service to help build capacity for nonprofit organizations and public agencies working to fight poverty. The program is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.
At the Open Media Foundation, the VISTA program will be utilized across the organization to engage in capacity-building efforts to ensure that local communities are utilizing the low-cost media services, training and tools available at OMF. The primary goal of the partnership is to bring about social change through the representation of every voice in the media conversation.
Two AmeriCorps VISTA members began their one year of service at OMF in February 2015, Nicole Marquez and Corey Beasley. A third VISTA is preparing to join the team in April.
Marquez shares her thoughts on joining the OMF team. “I am happy to be a new member of the Open Media Foundation and continue to build capacity at this great nonprofit that values the representation of all voices in media.”
Beasley also looks forward to forging new initiatives. “I am so excited about having the opportunity to work at such a unique and interesting organization, and I look forward to serving the community of Denver and working with all of the great and talented people at Open Media Foundation.”
