Open Media Foundation’s goal with the 2020 Census was to mobilize the least likely to respond populations to complete Census 2020; to alleviate fears and undo preconceived notions about Census and how that data is used, to educate the population that their participation in Census leads to billions of dollars annually in federal funding for key social benefit programs in Healthcare, Education, and Congressional representation in Colorado.
By creating and distributing community-crafted information regarding, we were able to convey important messaging to our hard to count communities, encouraging their participation.
The Work:
Partnering with other nonprofit organizations who serve hard to count communities in Colorado, Open Media collaboratively crafted more than four dozen video and radio PSAs.
In addition, we empowered organizations beyond those we partnered with to spread the word and get their communities counted by utilizing our custom social media toolkit.
The Impact:
Leveraging additional partnerships with Colorado Broadcasters Association and Public News Service, our PSAs reached hard to count communities across the state, generating more than 120 million impressions over radio and television.
Our partnership with Colorado Broadcasters Association allowed us to amplify our investment of $90,000 to a value of more than $1.25Million.
