We want a world that values all sexualities and gender identities. The Colorado Anti-Violence Program (CAVP) eliminates violence against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) communities throughout Colorado. CAVP provides programming that supports the well-being of those impacted by violence, creating opportunities for healing and transformation. CAVP trains and educates community organizations, victim advocates and other service providers to facilitate institutional and cultural shifts towards LGBTQ inclusivity. Branching Seedz of Resistance (BSEEDZ), CAVP’s youth-led project, breaks cycles of violence affecting LGBTQ young people through community organizing, arts, media and direct action.
During our Discovery process, it was clear that eliminating the barrier to CAVP’s important programming and educational resources was their most important goal. The website should make it clear where to get help and how to be involved. It should also provide a rallying point for BSEEDZ, facilitating the courageous work of CAVP’s youth activists. BSEEDZ needed a separate space to place its materials that energized and excited young people to take action.
Our User Story and Wireframe process concentrated these goals into real web functionality. The layout of the website immediately promotes action items to the user, ensuring they are sent to the right resources. A customizable slideshow feature allows CAVP to promote upcoming classes and events. The look and feel is organic and motivating, blending contemporary, urban and natural elements. The BSEEDZ sub-site is a completely separate website that allows youth activists to edit content about their program, organize for the cause and advertise their events. It looks and feels different too. The BSEEDZ site’s look and feel is energetic, emboldening and youthful.
